Your biggest hair questions: Answered!
From dying your hair, to the washing and texture of it, this article by Good Housekeeping answers some of your biggest hair dying questions. Celebrity hair stylist Sarah Potempa shares some of her secrets to keeping healthy and perfectly colored hair.
Q: Is there a color that works best to cover gray?
A: Don't think you have to choose a specific color or a dark one to cover gray or to look younger. Go with what looks best on you! And consider incorporating highlights into your gray, which can be beautiful and easier to maintain.
Q: How long after I first color my hair should I wait until shampooing next?
A: Wait at least two to three days so that the color has time to oxidize and settle in.
Q: Most hair kits come with samples of shampoo and conditioner - can't I use my own?
A: Be sure to read your bottles carefully. Some shampoos and conditioners (ones that contain sulfates or are labeled "clarifying," for example) can strip away color, so you want to avoid using these right after you color your hair. The best bet would be to use the product they give you to ensure the color lasts.
Q: How do I decide which hair color is best for my complexion?
A: The best idea? Test different colors with a wig or a colored hair extension. See how the color looks against your skin, and pick something that works for your skin tone.
