Static Hair No More

In the winter, the dry air is unavoidable, but static hair doesn't have to come along with it. We have some tips and tricks from hair experts to help subdue the static.

1. Spritz On Moisturizing Spray

2. Use Dryer Sheets On Your Hair

We've heard it all before, and it works! "Another trick that always works is to rub a dryer sheet over your hair," Marino explains. "The way they work to prevent static cling on your clothes, it does the same for your hair!"

3. Add Hairspray

4. Leave Conditioner In

"In the shower, leave a little bit of your conditioner on the ends to add moisture to the hair while avoiding frizz," Potempa says. In the shower, with the water running, use a paddle brush to distribute the conditioner evenly throughout the hair. "This will allow you to de-tangle hair in the shower and not have to brush wet hair after," she explains.

5. Add Cool Temperatures

"Closing the cuticle will also help with avoiding static," Sarah Potempa reveals. "This includes a cool rinse in the shower and a cool shot from the blow dryer."

6. Take A Dryer Sheet To Your Pillow

Just like Marissa Marino, Potempa says, "If all else fails, rub a dryer sheet on your pillow at night to help avoid waking up with static!"

Your biggest hair questions: Answered!

From dying your hair, to the washing and texture of it, this article by Good Housekeeping answers some of your biggest hair dying questions. Celebrity hair stylist Sarah Potempa shares some of her secrets to keeping healthy and perfectly colored hair.

Q: Is there a color that works best to cover gray?

A: Don't think you have to choose a specific color or a dark one to cover gray or to look younger. Go with what looks best on you! And consider incorporating highlights into your gray, which can be beautiful and easier to maintain.

Q: How long after I first color my hair should I wait until shampooing next?

A: Wait at least two to three days so that the color has time to oxidize and settle in.

Q: Most hair kits come with samples of shampoo and conditioner - can't I use my own?

A: Be sure to read your bottles carefully. Some shampoos and conditioners (ones that contain sulfates or are labeled "clarifying," for example) can strip away color, so you want to avoid using these right after you color your hair. The best bet would be to use the product they give you to ensure the color lasts.

Q: How do I decide which hair color is best for my complexion?

A: The best idea? Test different colors with a wig or a colored hair extension. See how the color looks against your skin, and pick something that works for your skin tone.
