Pretty Little Beachwaves

Australian-born Glenn Nutley, is an internationally acclaimed hair and make up artist, who recently styled the gorgeous Janel Parrish for the 2014 Teen Choice Awards with the BEACHWAVER® PRO! Janel, who plays Mona Vanderwaal on Pretty Little Liars was nominated for best TV Villian. Pretty Little Liars took the award home for best TV show in the drama category.
She looked AMAZING! She was styled by Fashion Stylist Adeel Khan and wore a Contrarian New York two piece ensemble. Her stunning bracelets are by XIV Karats. We especially love her simple white painted nails! The beachwaves really completed her whole red carpet look. (Images from Just Jared)

Molly Sims: Beachwaves & Braids

A few months ago, I had the pleasure of styling Molly Sims hair with the Beachwaver. We had a great time and she fell in love with it! So much so, that she is wrote about it on her blog and called it her "Curling Iron Obsession!" It is so great to help teach how to get beautiful beach waves in only a few minutes. The only other thing Molly and I like just as much as pretty Beachwaves, are braids. I was so excited when she asked me to share some easy braid hairstyles. Check out a two strand braid and fishtail braid crown tutorial on her blog!

We are feeling hot and jazzy this week as we throwback to one of our favorite vintage hair looks. Last year Sarah teamed up with Tina Turnbow and Deborah Lippmann, to create a night of retro glam inspired by the 20s – 50s. The night was filled with fun, dancing, and beauty!  See some of the beautiful looks below!

Ted Gibson‘s modern bouffant was inspired by Brigitte Bardot and the Cannes Film Festival, where much of Pamella Roland‘s own inspiration was rooted for her SS14 Collection. This simply, disheveled, yet elegant ponytail is easy to create in the few steps below.

  1. Spray a texturizing mist throughout hair to give it body and hold

  2. Create your deep side part by blowing front of hair over to one side

  3. Style part with “On Set” Styling Brush to keep it polished

  4. Section the top quarter of your hair away.

  5. Take remaining, loose hair and secure with an elastic band

  6. Release the top section and create 3-4 small sections. Using your SARAHPOTEMPA “Prep it Comb” tease each small section from mid to end. Once each section is teased, gather together and secure it to the already created ponytail with a bungee or another elastic band. Spray with a strong hold hairspray to finish.

TIP: Wrap or add your favorite ribbon/ leather piece around the base of the ponytail. Spray with a strong hold hairspray to finish.

We loved Peter Butler‘s faux bob he created on the Emmy Award Winner, Claire Danes. This polished look was a huge topic of conversation among Beauty Bloggers and Emmy watchers alike… The question at hand was, “Is this faux or for real?”

We found out from Peter that it was indeed a faux bob. Upon his Twitter approval that The WRAP UP™ was the perfect way to recreate it at home, Grace tried it! Check out the pictures and her steps below!

  1. Part your hair in a deep side part

  2. Run your Ceramic Styling Iron + Blowout Attachments through the front section to create a slight bend in the hair

  3. Gather hair into a low ponytail and pull hair through The WRAP UP™

  4. Pinch The WRAP UP™ closed and slide down towards the end of the hair. Then roll up towards the base of the neck.

  5. Bend The WRAP UP™ forward to the shape of your neck and secure with two inch bobby pins

  6. Spritz hair with a flexible hair spray to give a clean and polished faux bob look.If your event is not as formal as the Emmys, feel free to “mess it up a little bit” and add some texture.

Last Saturday, SARAHPOTEMPA partnered up with the creators of the “The Moms” and SWW Creative to style the hair for Strut: The Fashionable Mom Show. Long, beachy, relaxed waves with a trendy middle part was the hairspiration for this Mom empowering event. Each lady walked for a charity of their choosing while wearing clothing provided by Bloomingdale’s. Stay tuned for shots from the runway!

On June 18th, Sarah styled both the gorgeous Stacy Kiebler and the amazing Emily VanCamp for the Clinique Dramatically Different Event!  It was a rainy night so both ladies wanted looks that could withstand the humidity and let them wear their hair up.  Check out their dramatically different looks!

For Stacy, Sarah combed all of her hair back to a low ponytail and then used the WRAP UP to make a chic bun at the nape of her neck.  This look is casual but polished and great for a hot summer day!  On Emily, Sarah used a much higher ponytail and then braided the pony tail before winding it into a bun for a more boho vibe that’s still sophisticated for a night out!

People Magazine loved Emily’s look so much, they called Sarah and Make Up Artist Jake Bailey for their How To on the look.

  1. Start by smoothing out all the hair with The SARAH POTEMPA Ceramic Styling Iron.
  2. Then spray a flexible hairspray, like Aussie’s Sprunch, directly on the “On Set” Styling Brush, which is a Nylon/Boar Bristle mix, and brush the hair up into a high ponytail.  Secure with an elastic.

TIP: To get a smooth high ponytail, look up when brushing!

  3. Apply a smoothing cream to the ponytail and root (also a bit of Fatboy pomade ( can help with flyaways) to add shine.  Braid all the way down and secure with a clear elastic.

  4. Wrap the braid around the ponytail, securing it with a mix of hair pins and bobby pins to create the visible shape.

We love both the dramatically different bun looks for this summer!

Alicia Keys: SUNDANCE 2013

Sarah had the pleasure of styling the fabulous Alicia Keys at Sundance Film Festival.  Ms. Keys was in Park City, Utah debuting her first film “The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete,” as executive producer and composer. The film revolves around two kids from Brooklyn, who fend for themselves over a summer after being put through a variety of obstacles. Scripted by Michael Starrbury and debuting the young and talented Skylan Brooks playing the son of Jennifer Hudson, this movie is sure to move you.
